INTRODUCTION

 A Healthy population lies at the heart of the holistic development of a region. According to the Commission on Macroeconomics and Health, World Health Organization (WHO);

health is positively correlated with development and it affects economic growth directly through Labour productivity and the economic burden of illnesses.

The Government of Telangana considers health as a priority sector. It ’s focus has been on the multidimensional enhancement of the healthcare system in the state, especially health infrastructure, nutrition status of women and children and health financing among others.

HEALTH CARE SERVICES

 Services are being provided to the pregnant woman and Children through the following schemes and interventions in the state.

  • 66 Comprehensive Emergency Obstetric and Neo-natal Care (CEMONC) Service Centers are available in the state to promote institutional deliveries, attend pregnancy related Obstetrician and Anesthetist services and emergency blood transfusion services are made available round-the-clock.
  • 314 PHCs are notified as 24 hours round the clock Mother and Child Health Care centers to promote institutional deliveries to reduce maternal deaths occur during or immediately after child
  • 57 Blood Banks and 31 Blood Storage Centers are established since 2005-06. Indian Red Cross Society is the State level nodal agency for providing blood transfusion

KEY HIGHLIGHTS

  • There are 161 Sub-Centre’s, 22 Primary Health Centers, 2 Community Health Centers, 3 Area Hospitals, 1 Medical College Hospital in Suryapet
  • State Flagship schemes such as AMMA VODI and KCR Kit have reduced the Infant Mortality Rate, Female Feticide and Maternal Mortality Rate (MMR).20032 KCR Kits were distributed in Suryapet district since inception of the scheme.
