Department of Medical & Health – Suryapet Dist.
In Suryapet district, Quality health services are being provided to the people through( 1) Government General Hospital , (3) Area Hospitals , (1) Community Health Center , (23) Primary Health Centers , (5) Urban Primary Health Centers , (5) Basti Dawakhanas and (161) Sub-Health Centers.
I. Maternal and Child Care Services:-
- Childbirths:- As part of the National Health Mission , Maternal and Child Care Center has been established at the GGH for the care of mothers and babies , and the government There has been a significant increase in deliveries in hospitals . During This financial year from April 2024 to March, 2025, 12686 are Institutional deliveries, out of which 6170 are in Government Institutions and 6516 deliveries are in Private hospital and No home deliveries are reported.The number of maternal deaths has been significantly reduced from 92 to 39.
MCH Kit : The Government of Telangana has launched this flagship from in the entire state on 02.06.2017. MCH Kit scheme is aimed at providing all essentials for a pregnant women and new born baby thus helping to manage the pregnancy complications. The main objective of the MCH Kit scheme is to reduce the infant mortality rate and encourage institutional deliveries in the state.
II.Immunization Program:- As part of the National Immunization Program , (14) types of vaccines are administered to children aged 0-5 years to prevent (10) deadly diseases and to pregnant women. Preventing women from getting tetanus TT vaccination is administered every Wednesday and Saturday at health sub-centres and Anganwadi centres.
During this fianancial year, 99% vaccination covered to all the children. The infant mortality rate has been reduced from 39 to 27 in the district through innovative health programs being implemented by the Telangana Government.
III.National Tuberculosis Eradication Programme:- NTEP
Tuberculosis is one of the diseases that afflict most people in India. It is a deadly disease caused by a micro-organism. For the prevention of tuberculosis, patients are treated by the DOTS system. (6) TB Units are also established in Suryapet District.
Ni- Kshay Mitra – TB Free Bharat Abhiyan :- Under this scheme financial assistantance also providing by the Government for an amount of Rs.1000 through DBT to the TB patients for taking nutritious diet and other necessities under Ni- Kshay Poshan Yojana . In addition to the nutrition and other necessities, for the patients , every citizen / NGO / politician / businessperson and government employee of the society can adopt a TB patient for a period of one year or 6 months and donate as per the scheme given below .
- Rice – 3.5 kg / month
- Pulses – 2 kg / month
- Oil – 250 ml / month
IV. National Center for Vector Borne Diseases Control(NCVBDC) :
The National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme (NVBDCP) is an umbrella programme for prevention and control of vector borne diseases (VBDs), viz., Malaria, Lymphatic Filariasis, Kala-azar, Dengue, Chikungunya and Japanese Encephalitis (JE). These diseases pose major public health problems and hamper socio-economic development. Generally the rural, tribal and urban slum areas are inhabited mostly by people of socio-economic groups who are more prone to develop VBDs and are considered as high risk groups:-
Female & Male Health workers will do house visits on every Friday and conduct FRY DAY – DRY DAy activities at village level by giving awareness to the community.
NFCP: Special camps are organized at the village level to provide Morbidity Management and Disability Prevention (MMDP) to those with symptoms of filariasis . Filaria cases are being identified through disease management and provided with essential items ( soap, towel, ointment , bucket, mug ) . Filaria patients are receiving financial assistance from the government through DBT .
NLEP ( N L EP ): National Leprosy Control Programme (NLCP) was launched by the Govt. of India in 1954- 55. Multi Drug Therapy (MDT) came into wide use from 1982, and the National Leprosy Eradication Programme was introduced in 1983. The strategy of NLEP was based on controlling the disease through reduction in the quantum of infection in the population and reduction in infective source, thus breaking the chain of disease transmission. The NLEP’s mission is to provide quality leprosy services free of cost to all sections of the population, with easy accessibility, through the integrated healthcare system, including care for disability after cure of the disease. “Leprosy-free India” is Leprosy Free “India” Is NLEP Of Vision .
V.Non – Communicable Diseases Diseases) Program:-
NPCDCS (National Programme for Control of Cancer, Diabetics, Cardio Vascular disease and Stroke):- This program launched in the District in 2018 . The program involves screening and treatment for BP, sugar and breast cancer, oral cancer are being conducted for above 30 years of age at the field level and referring the needy to the higher facilities for early treatment.
Each Healh worker has been provided with Glucometer, strips, lancets and Digital BP machine for usage at village level during the screening and the drugs will be distributed at the Door steps of patients . (4) Types of drugs are available for BP and (3) types of drugs are available for diabeties.
Palliative Care :-
In December 2020, a 6-beded palliative care unit was established at the Government general hospital, Suryapet as part of the Telangana government’s NCD program for terminally ill patients with cancer, other chronic and geriatric diseases in the district. These centers serve to monitor their health conditions and make them spend their last days in peace.
Alana home care services started in our district from -2020 with mobile vehicle providing home care services in villages as per disease priority based like follow up of cancer cases , stroke , CVD , CKD , wound care management , physiotherapy services etc with medical officer , physiotherapist and staff nurse regularly.
Mental Health Program :-
District mental health clinic was established at GGH Suryapet in june-2023 by providing psychiatric services regularly at all primary health centers. Psychiatrist will be providing awareness and treatment once in a month by giving counseling and guidance on mental health. Toll free number is also provided at the state level. TELEMANAS 14166.
VI. Basti Hospitals :-
(5) Basti Dawakhanas with corporate facilities are being established and managed in ULBs for the urban poor of the district. Of these, (3) are in Kodad division, (2) in suryapet division. under this scheme all 12 types of medical services are provided, 98 types of drugs and 14 types of diagnostic rapid tests are made available. (1) Medical officer, (1) Staff Nurse and (1) Contingent worker is provided at the facility.
VII.Palle Dawakana (Ayushman Aarogya Mandir):- In order to provide better health services to the rural people of the district, 122 health Sub-Centers with a population of 5 thousand were upgraded as Ayushman Arogya Mandirs. One MBBS or BAMS or B.Sc Nursing was recruited as MLHPs in addition to ANM in each subcenter. Under this scheme 12 types of medical services are provided, 98 types of drugs and 14 types of diagnostic rapid tests are made available.
VIII .RBSK (Rashtriya Bala Swastya Karyakramam): Under RBSK Programme (9) Mobile Health Teams are working in the district. Each team consists of two doctors, a Pharmacist and ANM. Anganwadi centers and schools for children between 0-18 years in the district are being visited every month as per pre-planned schedule and screening of children and students are being done and those who required further treatment are referred to GGH,Suryapet.Permission has been granted to start a DEIC center in the district .
IX .Women’s Health Centers :-
(4) Primary health centers are identified in each Constituency and conducted (8) types of free screening tests for women above 30 years of age and those who need them are referred to the Government General Hospital, Suryapet for treatment through 102 vehicles.
X. Telangana Diagnostic Center :-
Among the innovative schemes, Government of Telangana has established Telangana Diagnostic Hub at Government General Hospital Suryapet. (3) Crore worth of advanced equipment is being installed and (153) types of blood tests are being done and reports are being sent immediately to their personal mobile numbers. These blood samples are being transported from (23) health centers in the district through 5) hired vehicles every day to the Telangana Diagnostic Hub in the Government General Hospital, Suryapet.
XI.PHC Constructions: (4) PHC buildings were sanctioned for constructions in Suryapet district i.e. 1. Munagala 2. Palakaveedu 3. Chintapally and 4. Maddirala PHC Munagala is completed and other (3) PHCs are in tender stage by Panchayat Raj Department.
XII . Subcenters construction: Total 109 subcenters were sanctioned in the district for new construction.

XIII. Quality Standards ( NQAS ): 23 health centers in our district have successfully obtained the certification of quality standards for primary health centers and sub-centers .
