 Department Role and Responsibility:-

The Telangana Tribal Welfare Department’s primary roles and responsibilities revolve around promoting the welfare and advancement of Scheduled Tribes (STs) in the state. This includes ensuring the effective implementation of constitutional safeguards for STs, improving education and literacy among them, assisting ST families below the poverty line with economic development, and safeguarding their interests from exploitation.

Objective:-

The Tribal Welfare Department in Telangana aims to uplift the socioeconomic status of Scheduled Tribes (STs) by promoting education, economic development, and ensuring their rights and welfare. Key objectives include improving literacy, providing financial assistance for income-generating activities, and ensuring the implementation of constitutional safeguards for STs.

Key Functions and Responsibilities:

Education and Scholarships:

  • Providing boarding and lodging facilities in Tribal Welfare Hostels and Ashram Schools for ST children from 3rd to 10th class & Inter to and above.
  • Offering scholarships, including Pre-Matric and Post-Matric scholarships to ST students pursuing education.
  • Providing financial assistance for higher studies abroad through the Ambedkar Overseas Vidya Nidhi.
  • Running the Best Available Schools Scheme to provide quality education in private schools with boarding facilities. 

Economic Support:

  • Providing financial assistance through banks for the livelihood of STs. 
  • Implementing schemes like the Driver Empowerment Scheme to provide financial assistance to STs with driving licenses.
  • Implementing schemes for the rehabilitation of individuals affected by natural disasters. 

Other Responsibilities:

  • Implementing various welfare schemes for the development of STs.
  • Ensuring the proper functioning of various Tribal Welfare Institutions like hostels, and schools.
  • Providing assistance to ST families below the poverty line for their economic development.

Post Metric Scholarship:-

The Post Metric Scholarship is a great opportunity for students from economically weaker sections of society to support and pursue higher education. The Post Metric Scholarship provides financial assistance and reduces the financial burden on the families and encourages students to pursue higher education.

The Post Metric Scholarship is provided to students who are pursuing Inter to PG in Government and Private Colleges.

There are (18) Government Scheduled Tribe hostels (13 Boys, 5 Girls) and (03) Ashram Schools (1 Boy, 2 Girls) functioning in the District.  During the year Total (3680) students were admitted. The boarders of these hostels were provided with free boarding and lodging facilities, besides supply of Note Books, Bedsheet & Carpet, Towel, Woolen Blanket, Trunk Box, School Bag, Record Book, Graph Book, Shoe, Cheppal, Tracksuit, Night Dress, Sports Dress  and (2) pairs School Uniform. They are also provided Cosmetics, Hair cutting, Napkin charges and study material etc., during the year the Commissioner of Tribal Welfare, TG, Hyderabad has released budget an amount of Rs.980.84Lakhs has been Expenditure Rs.751.36Lakhs.

  • BEST AVAILABLE SCHOOL SCHEME: This Scheme introduced to S.T. students to bring them on par with other students and to provide good quality of education. During the year (352) students are admitted including Renewal and Fresh. The Commissioner of Tribal Welfare has released an amount of Rs.240.47Lakhs has been Expenditure Rs.140.70Lakhs.
  • AMBEDKAR OVERSEAS VIDYA NIDHI: This Scheme introduced to S.T. students studying in out of country providing Rs.20.00Lakhs each during (2) years course and Visa, Fare Charges. During this year The Commissioner of Tribal Welfare has released an amount of Rs.300.00Lakhs has been sanctioned Rs.297.45Lakhs.
  • POST MATRIC SCHOLARSHIPS:- During this year an amount of Rs.882.26Lakhs released by the Commissioner of Tribal Welfare, TG, Hyderabad, an amount of Rs. 858.86Lakhs sanctioned to (3503) students.
  • PRE MATRIC (NEW SCHEME) SCHOLARSHIPS:- in this scheme implemented for studying in Government school students from 5th to 8th class students. During this year an amount of Rs.0.30Lakhs released by the CTW, TG, Hyderabad, an amount of Rs.0.30Lakhs sanctioned to Tribal Students.
  • PRE MATRIC (Rajeev Vidya Divena) SCHOLARSHIPS:- in this scheme implemented for studying in Government school students from 9th to 10th class students. During this year an amount of Rs.10.12Lakhs released by the CTW, TG, Hyderabad, an amount of Rs. 10.12Lakhs to be sanctioned to Tribal Students.
  • INTERCASTE MARRIAGE: The scheme is implementing by paying @ 50,000/- as incentive cash amount to S.T. bride or bride grooms who married with other caste. During this year Budget Received from the Commissioner of Tribal Welfare, Telangana, Hyderabad an amount of Rs.12.50lakhs the same amount sanctioned (25) couple.
