BRIEF NOTES ON VETERINARY AND ANIMAL HUSBANDRY DEPARTMENT SURYAPET DISTRICT
INTRODUCTION:
The Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Department, Suryapet District is covering 33,05,576 livestock population of 136289 farmers and serving with (5) Area veterinary Hospitals, (41) Primary Veterinary Centers and (42) Sub centers (Animal Husbandry) in 23 mandals.
The District Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Officer (DVAHO) is the administrative head of entire district. The Major role of the department is
- Treatment of Ailing animals.
- Breed Improvement by Artificial insemination under NAIP (National Animal Insemination Programme) Artificial insemination done with Free of Cost.
- Disease control by prophylactic measures like Vaccinations, Dewormings and Mass disease control programmes like NADCP (National Animal Disease Control Programme) which covers Foot and Mouth Disease, Brucellosis and PPR vaccinations on Free of cost.
- Raising of Improved fodder for increasing Milk and Meat production.
- Implementation and monitoring of the livestock developmental schemes, taken by the Government.
- Extension activities like management of calf, heifer, Milch Animal and Dry Animal management for rural development.

National Livestock Mission (NLM):
Central Government sponsored 50% subsidy scheme up to 50.0 Lakhs to each individual or to a firm to support rural new entrepreneurs for establishment of livestock units for breeding and development.
