The Suryapet District consists of (23) Mandals covered in (3) Revenue Division. The major mining activity in the District is mining of Lime Stone mineral and quarrying of Building material and Black Granite. The Mines & Geology Department is one of the main Revenue generation Department to the Government ex-chequer.
The office of the Asst. Director of Mines & Geology, Suryapet District is established on 11.10.2016 with the jurisdiction of 23 Revenue Mandals and office functioning from Suryapet District Head Quarters.
FUNCTIONS OF THE DEPARTMENT:-
This office is carrying out the functions of Regulatory, Geological Investigation Promotional and collection of Mineral Revenue to the State Exchequer. The mineral will be extracted and transported from the approved Quarry / Mining leased areas after payment of Seigniorage Fee/ Royalty in advance.
GENERAL GEOLOGY OF SURYAPET DISTRICT:-
Suryapet District forms a part of stable Dharwar Craton of South Indian shield. It exposes rocks of peninsular Gneissic complex of Dharwar Super Group. The main mineral resources in the District is Limestone, Rough Stone and Road Metal and Black Granite.
Limestone deposit is formed in Mellacheruvu, Palakeedu, Chintalapalem and Mattampally Mandals and the mineral is used in Cement Industries. The Black Granite is formed in Kodad, Maddirala, Noothanakal, Ananthagiri and Athmakur mandals etc., and used in flooring and decorative purposes. The Rough Stone & Road Metal formedin Garidapally, Kodad, Suryapet, Huzurnagar and Chivvemla mandals etc., and the mineral used in construction activity.
