INTRODUCTION
Forest Plays a Major role in supporting livelihood activities of rural poor, contributing to the economy of the State, mitigating the threat of Global warming besides conserving the fertile soil and vulnerable Wildlife.To protect & develop existing forests and to improve its productivity, Forest Department created water harvesting structures like Check Dams, Percolation Tanks and Staggered Trenches which help in recharging of ground water in turn improve forest vegetation besides stabilizing the status of agriculture in adjoining fields.
Social Forestry
The Government has launched a massive people’s movement involving general public and farmers in a big way to increase tree cover outside the reserve forests to improve and protect the environment and also to provide gainful employment. The main components of social forestry are distribution of seedlings, rising of plantations in community lands, institutions and road side avenues. The main species raised for free distribution and planting in public lands are Raavi, Marri, Neem, Kanuga, Badam, Neredu, Rela and others.
Telanganaku Haritha Haram
The Government of Telangana has launched a flagship programme “Telanganaku Haritha Haaram” with an objective to increase the tree covers from present 24% to 33% of the total geographical area of the state. 10% of the funds of Gram Panchayats and Municipalities are allocated to Green Fund for the development of greenery.

The Geographical Area of the Suryapet district is 3615.66 Sq. Kms, out of which,121.60 Sq. kms area covered with Forest area, which accounts 3.36%
